A recurring theme of the celebrations of Saturday night was the Oriel spirit. It is fitting, therefore, that the boat club’s only prize, the Elis White Trophy, recognizes the achievements of the club’s most improved rower. This year it was awarded to Eddie Shields. Second year Eddie began coxing in Michaelmas to help out with a coxing shortage and has gone from strength to strength. He coxed the women’s second Torpid to blades, coxed the Henley Boat Races for M1 and coxed W2 up two places at Summer Eights. All this while rowing in M2 for Summer Eights and acting as coach for M4. Congratulations to Eddie, a thoroughly deserving winner.
